Sheesham Jhula

By Abhijit Phadke

The beautifully hand-crafted Sheesham Jhula shown in the photograph below was photographed at the Navi Mumbai Arts Festival 2013 that was held at Urban Haat in CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai from 24th to 28th Jan-2013.

Sheesham Wood Jhula
This beautiful carved Sheesham Jhula (swing) made from Indian Rosewood (Sheesham wood)was for sale at the first ever Navi Mumbai Arts festival.

Yes, and that Sheesham chair that you can see in the foreground looks quite amazing too. There was lots of other Sheesham wood furniture such as chairs, screens, desks, mirrors, center-tables, sofa-sets and the like. Below this post I am giving the links to more images of these hand-carved Sheesham wood furniture pieces.

Sheesham Jhula (Swing)
And here is another close-up photograph of that Sheesham Jhula.

I did not ask the price of this jhula, so unfortunately I cannot specify it here. But overall I felt that the rates of all the Sheesham wood furniture that was on display was more or less comparable with the rates of solid teak wood furniture of similar dimensions.

I am not averse to using Plywood, MDF or even Particle board furniture if it suits my requirements, but such solid wood furniture is the real stuff. Things of beauty that last for a life-time. Definitely in a class of their own.
